Heparinised saline versus normal saline in the maintenance of invasive arterial lines in intensive care
نویسندگان
چکیده
Intr Maintaining the patency of arterial lines is essential for obtaining accurate physiological measurements, enabling blood sampling and minimising the time, expense and patient discomfort incurred by line replacement. HS is commonly used to maintain and prolong arterial line patency. In 2008, a National Patient Safety Agency alert advised organisations to minimise its use for this purpose following multiple clinical incidents involving misselection of heparin products. Use of HS is also associated with risks such as thrombocytopenia and haemorrhage [1]. Historical studies suggest that NS is equally as effective at maintaining line patency, although recent evidence has questioned this [2].

Finding a solution: Heparinised saline versus normal saline in the maintenance of invasive arterial lines in intensive care.
BACKGROUND We assessed the impact of heparinised saline versus 0.9% normal saline on arterial line patency. Maintaining the patency of arterial lines is essential for obtaining accurate physiological measurements, enabling blood sampling and minimising line replacement. Use of heparinised saline is associated with risks such as thrombocytopenia, haemorrhage and mis-selection. Historical studies...
متن کاملSaline and Heparinised Flush in Maintaining Patency of Arterial Catheters in Adult Patients—A Systematic Review
This paper compares the effectiveness of normal saline and heparinised saline as a flushing solution in maintaining patency of arterial catheters. Use of heparin as a flushing solution in maintaining patency of intraarterial catheters has been a recognized practice. Due to its anticoagulation properties, heparin can cause side effects like heparin-induced thrombocytopenia in hypersensitive pati...

Background : Disorder in diffusion of blood gases almost always is clue to collection of secretion in respiratory airways. So protecting the airway, correct suctioning to remove the secretion and maintenance of air way potency are necessary interventions in patient with end tracheal tube . Objective : To determine and compaire arterial blood gas in patient with open heart surgery with and w...

Background and Aims: VAP prevention is a top priority in the intensive care units. The study was conducted to compare the effect of using normal saline and distilled water for tracheal suctioning on the incidence of ventilator-associated pneumonia and hemodynamic indexes in ventilator-dependent patients. Methods: The present study is a randomized clinical trial that was conducted from 2017 to 2...

Background: Given the fact that various studies have reported the positive effects of hydroxyethyl starch therapy in controlling shock, this study aimed to compare the effects of hydroxyethyl starch on modifying acidosis and treating patients with aluminum phosphide poisoning. Methods: This was a randomized clinical trial that was conducted on 60 patients with aluminum phosphide poisoning. We ...
